5/12 SCBP OPEN Satellite Tournament Recap

Todd and Scottie both showed up to Sandbox without a partner, and just hoping to pick up someone good enough to make a run. Todd's been training at the TF almost every weekend, and Scottie's been doing the same at league, so it's not surprising that they could make a run together. Combined with a good draw, Getcha Lean On (a nice play off of a classic) put together enough wins to get the confidence needed to take down a premier opponent. In the winner's bracket final, they did just that, beating The Cocksmen by 3 cups.

It's been well documented that The Cockmen have enjoyed great success this year. Their spring league stats have been impressive, and they both continue to individually get better. For this reason, it is absolutely crazy that Todd got so giddy after advancing to championship match. "We beat them by three cups!" he said after the match.

While being in the championship match on the winner's side is a luxury, as winning one of two games is a lot easier task than winning two straight. However, elite teams win two straight all of the time, and there were some elite teams left in the loser's bracket. Flip Mode Squad lost in round 2 to Pure Filth who lost in round 3 to The Cocksmen. Winning even one game against any of those teams is not easy, so the co-founder wisely advised Todd, "Done your business is not. Win one more game must you. Easy winning this tournament will not be."

As an aside, there were some notable performances by teams that did not quite make the finals. Trenor picked up a girl partner who absolutely showed him up, hitting the last four cups in one of their games. Cerveza made a mini-run, and ended up taking out an inebriated Pure Filth. The Philanges also surprised the hell out of everyone, including Flip Mode Squad, when they came back from a 324890 cup deficit to force OT. Mike of FMS was off trying to get with girls in the middle of the game as victory was well in hand. After missing her first 25+ throws, Rachael got closer to hitting cups with a bounce shot - only because a bounce shot can keep bouncing more than once. It's always entertaining to see two drunk people almost take out the defending champs.

Unfortunately for Getcha Lean On, The Cocksmen are more than capable of winning 2 straight to win a tournament, and that's exactly what happened. Both games were within reach, but as seen many times before, a good team gets on a roll in the losers bracket and doesn't look back...
